Stiles was still riding his high when he arrived at school the next morning to see Danny lounging beside his locker.

“Hey, Danny-boy did you miss me?” he taunted, ducking in time to miss the flailing limb that came his way as Danny spun around.

“Jesus, Stiles are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Danny glared.

Stiles just snickered “So why are we doing the stalking thing?”

We aren’t doing anything. You are going to tell me why the hell Jackson almost ripped my head off last night!” Danny growled and Stiles stepped back to take a good look at the teen.

Danny’s eyes were blood-shot and there were bags under the boy’s eyes.

Stiles frowned and dragged Danny out into the parking lot away from the growing crowd of students.

Stopping beside his jeep he turned to the older boy.

 “What happened?” he inquired softly.

Danny scrubbed a hand across his face “He kept talking about me smelling like rye or some crap.” Danny sighed as he slumped against the vehicle “Then he wanted to know what was going on between me and you. The next thing I know it he’s fucking screaming his head off about a claim or something.”

Stiles wolf froze at the words “Danny, Danny!” he interrupted “What exactly did he say about a claim?”

Danny frowned “I don’t know!” he yelled causing several heads to swing their way.

Stiles slapped his hand against his forehead because if Jackson had actually blabbed to Danny, Derek would have killed him!

“What’s going on Stiles?” Danny whispered “I’ve known Jackson my whole life and I get that he can be a bit of an ass…”

Stiles snorted, a bit his ass!

“But this was a whole new version of freaky!”

Stiles grimaced as he watched Danny’s expression droop. If Derek didn’t kill Jackson he’d better at least kick the beta’s ass!

“There’s nothing wrong with Jackson that wasn’t wrong with him a birth,” Stiles muttered when Danny flashed him a hurt look. Stiles sighed “Ok, look, Jackson’s going through some things. That’s what Derek helping him with.”

“Is it about the guy he found dead?” Danny asked “He’s been off since then.”

As far as Stiles was concerned Jackson had always been off, but he doubted Danny would be too happy hearing his opinion.

“Yeah…kinda. Just stay away from Jackson for a bit, give him some time to cool off.” He advised the other boy “You probably shouldn’t even be in school because you know we have a special bond and all but you really look like crap.”

Danny snorted “I didn’t get much sleep.” He admitted.

Stiles bumped the boy’s shoulder with his fist “Chin up, dude. I’ll even get Derek to talk to Jackson ok? Just go home, get some sleep or power naps.”

Danny nodded as he turned away before pausing and turning back to Stiles with a small smile.

“Thanks Stiles.” He whispered

Stiles grinned “Hey what are friends for?”

Danny nodded again before ambling off. As soon as the boy was out of sight Stiles smile slid from his face as he pulled his phone from his jacket and dialled Derek’s number.

“Stilinski this had better be good.” The alpha growled.

“Is that fact that Jackson almost told Danny about his little furry friend good enough?” Stiles shot back.

Derek’s snarl and the sound of feet hitting the floor was answer enough.

*O*

Stiles' mood when he returned to the school halls had switched from amused to downright murderous.

He hadn't noticed that his wolf had latched onto the idea of Danny as part of his pack until the boy's tale about Jackson had made him want to track the beta down and....well some thoughts were better left for nights when he didn't have to reign in his wolf's fury.

Slamming his locker shut he made his way to class.

Entering the room his eyes narrowed as they met Jackson's. The boy was slumped in his seat watching the door way like it held his last chance to win a game and a part of Stiles twitched in sympathy but his wolf was having none of it and before he realized what was happening he was making his way to Jackson's side of the room.

Dropping down into the seat behind the blond he noisily slammed his books onto the desk, grinning feraly as the sound made the other wolf flinch.

Jackson turned to face him and Stiles simply raised an eyebrow in response.

"What?" he drawled

"Where's Danny?" Jackson snapped, brows pulled into a frown.

Stiles tilted his head, glaring down his nose at Jackson in a move that was pure wolf.

The blond shifted minutely before huffing at Stiles' lack of a response and spinning back around on his chair.

A moment late Scott and Allison ambled into the room thankfully the girl sat beside Lydia because Stiles really wasn't in the frame of mind to deal with that particular problem today.

Scott slid into the seat beside him and shot Stiles a questioning look.

"Why are we sitting back here?" he whispered in confusion.

"No reason." Stiles responded glibly before allowing his voice to drop to a register that only Scott and Jackson could catch "I mean it not like someone threatened their best friend and almost spilled the wolfy beans, now is it Jackson?"

Jackson hunched forward and Stiles could almost hear him gritting his teeth.

Scott's eyes flew to Jackson "He did what?" he spluttered, lowering his voice when a few people glanced their way. "Why the hell did he do that?"

"I've got a number of theories going." Stiles shrugged nonchalantly "One of the best ones is he was dropped on the head as a kid, well it's either that or he's a jealous dipstick. Personally I like option two."

"You don't know anything!" Jackson hissed as he spun to face them.

"Who me?" Stiles smirked leaning back in his seat "I know plenty. I know that I had to send Danny home because he was a nervous wreck. I know what the claim business is about..."

"How do you know that?" Scott queried as Jackson's face paled.

"I read it." Stiles answered not once taking his eyes of Jackson "Oh yeah, something else I know. I really, really know that Derek's going to rip you a new one. If I was you, not that I'd want to be but if I was, I'd worry about the last thing for now."

Jackson stared at him for a moment before his eyes dropped and he slumped back into his seat. "I didn't mean to..."

"The fuck, you didn’t'!" Stiles spat, ignoring Scott's shocked "Stiles!"

"Do you know what your problem is? You don't think of anybody but yourself!" Stiles snarled "This time though, this time you picked the wrong person to mess with."

Jackson’s look of shock was enough to make his wolf back down, for now.

*O*

Stiles leant against the porch as he watched his dad drive off; he stayed there until the sheriff’s taillights were swallowed up by the night.

Stepping into the yard he breathed in the crisp air of the night as the moon's gleam made his wolf roil in agitation.

Scott had been tentative around him all day as if the slightest thing would set him off and then there was Jackson. The beta wolf had been watching him at every turn and Stiles still didn't get what that was about, yeah he'd been angry but this was hardly the first time he and Jackson had gone toe to toe about something.

Sighing he ran his hands through his short hair as he circled his house and stepped into the dark backyard.

Stretching he glanced around, identifying each sound and smell until he was satisfied that he was alone.

Shifting from his human to wolf form had been easy ever since that first night under his Aunt's watchful eye but shifting into the half human form of an Alpha was something he wasn't familiar with.

Pulling his shirt off he glanced at the moon as his wolf quieted in anticipation, they'd known this moment was coming since Danny had cornered them in the corridor earlier.

His reaction to Jackson was the last straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. They'd been functioning as two separate entities; the midnight runs that Stiles could only vaguely remember was proof enough.

Aunt Caro had warned him that the time would come sooner rather than later since Stiles wasn't officially the part of a pack yet.

"Blend?" Stiles frowned "I though you said the wolf was me."

Caroline nodded "It is you but it's the part of you that doesn't understand why it needs to be human, when you take on your alpha form the wolf and your human mind bleed into each other."

"Was that why Peter Hale..." Stiles trailed off

"Peter killed a member of his pack." Caroline whispered fingers carding through Stiles' hair "His wolf would never have let that happen...not if it could have stopped him."

"His wolf wasn’t there?" Stiles whispered, he could feel the fear of his own mental companion at the very thought. They were one even though they were separate for one to have been gone while the other was forced to go on was unthinkable.

"I can't be certain," his aunt murmured her eyes dark with anger "But whatever happened in that house was beyond a crime, it was plain evil."

Blinking away his Aunt's whispered words Stiles finished stripping placing his clothes neatly on the back step as he exhaled and reached inside his own head.

"Hunt?"

The mental query almost broke Stile's concentration but he managed to latch onto the wolf's familiar energy.

"If that's what you want" he responded "But first we need to do this ok?"

"Hunt together, play together?" the wolf sent back as its mind seeped into Stiles'

"Together." Stiles agreed

His wolf's glee surged through his mind as the creature's energy wrapped around him, the power of the onslaught sent Stiles to his knees.

He could feel his body lengthening, muscles stretching to accommodate their new frame as the world bled red around them.

His wolf's memories of trailing his father's car seeped into his mind even as the wolf snorted at Stiles' human rules but there was no judgement just acceptance.

The moon called to them whispering to the creature that was two and one and the alpha raised its head and answered the moon’s call, their howl breaking the silence of the night as they took to the forest where their mate waited.
