Stiles snorted as he followed Derek's scent into the woods. He'd detoured slightly when his wolf's need to see if their pack member was alright had overridden their urge to find their mate.
Sitting outside Danny's house he'd listened to the teen toss in his sleep before settling into a more natural slumber. He'd bared his teeth at the scent of Jackson covering the yard but he could do nothing about that now, not if he wanted to remain undetected.
Twisting through the trees Stiles sneezed again, shaking his massive head at the annoying scent clogging his nose. His wolf whined as Stiles swept his muzzle with a paw to get rid of the smell.
Pressing his nose back to the forest floor he huffed in frustration when he couldn't catch Derek's scent again. Turning in a tight circle he paused cocking his head to the side. Something wasn't right, Derek had been here before Stiles remembered it, so why were there no scent markers?
Rising unto his hind legs Stiles sniffed the air. The disturbing scent was there again but this time it was tainted with a metallic flavour that made his teeth ache.
It smelled like blood...like metal?
Metal!
Stiles snarled as he turned to escape the glade but he hardly taken a step when with a clang the forest's floor shifted.
Huge silver bars emerged from beneath Stiles' feet, sending him tumbling to the ground as they slammed shut.
Howling with fury Stiles slammed his body against the bars that held him trapped. They didn’t give an inch and his wolf bayed in anger as they threw themselves against the cage bars again and again, rage and desperation blending into a mindless madness.
“Stiles!”
The familiar voice made them pause as they swirled.
Derek Hale stood in the moonlight, his red eyes narrowed and Stiles bared his teeth at the other alpha.
Derek cocked a brow as he encircled the cage. “You’re big for a pup.” He mused.
Stiles growled low in his throat before pausing, Derek had said their name!
Obviously something in their expression had given away their thoughts because Derek laughed a husky sound that made Stiles’ fur bristle.
“You honestly thought I’d let another alpha just come prancing into my territory without challenge, even a white alpha?” Derek snorted as he stepped closer to the bars. The bars that Derek had used to trap Stiles!
Stiles’ eyes narrowed, watching as Derek came within swiping distance but the older wolf paused with a cocky grin.
“I’m not that dumb Stilinski.” He smirked. “Though you did hide the whole thing pretty well.”
Derek took another step before pausing and Stiles glared at him because the other wolf knew exactly what he was doing….taunting them. Baring his teeth he snarled as Derek’s grin widened, if he ever got out of this thing he was definitely looking into that whole neutering idea because Derek was way too smug for his own good!
Derek huffed out a breath. “I knew it was you Stiles. After you went off with your father I decided to look up this aunt of yours.”
Stiles whined in curiosity as Derek paused.
“I didn’t find anything at first because she didn’t use her mother’s maiden name but then I looked up her parents. The name Gabor, it’s in our records and that could have been just a coincidence.” Derek explained “But then the same night when you’re scheduled to return a new wolf turns up, a wolf that was way too comfortable when confronted by an unfamiliar pack.”
Stiles sniffed petulantly, how the hell was he supposed to know that there had been some sort of yellow pages for werewolves?
“Then there was your new obsession with rye and the way you acted around McCall, always herding him without giving him the option to cop out. That wasn’t human, that was your wolf.”
Stiles stilled, head cocked as he listened to Derek because for once that alpha actually made sense.
“You did a damn good job of hiding it,” Derek muttered “Hell if it wasn’t for your background I probably wouldn’t have figured it out.”
Stiles grinned baring his teeth in glee; he’d almost pulled one over on Derek Hale. He was officially awesome! Then again Derek didn’t have the best track record for finding werewolves but that didn’t make Stiles any less awesome.
Derek scoffed at his expression, narrowed red eyes watching Stiles closely. “I wasn’t going to say anything until you started using your friend as an instigator. The thing is Stilinski, you’re too young to form the bond you’re trying to push.”
Stiles glared at him, the hell? He was so not too young for this; he was pretty damn sure he was past his sell by date with the whole virgin thing! He was beyond the age of mating; he should have been mating daily ages ago! It was probably written somewhere in Werewolf Teens or it should be.
Derek sighed “You’re too young Stiles and I doubt you’re going to want to wait.”
This time Stiles scoffed, he could totally wait. It wasn’t like he was obsessed with sex or anything. If he got his daily dose of half naked Derek time each day and jerked off enough to put himself into coma…he could totally wait. Well as long as it was a couple of months…weeks…days. How long was he supposed to wait again?
His wolf shook its head and huffed at its human’s foolishness.
Stiles sighed, his body sagging at the thought of waiting even longer for a shot with Derek. Slipping closer to the cage bars he huffed in frustration as Derek watched him.
He yipped once and Derek stepped closer.
“If you take a swipe at me it’s not going to be pretty.” Derek threatened as Stiles watched him loftily.
Derek reached out slowly, trailing his fingers across Stiles’ muzzle, pushing the fur back in a way that felt like butterfly kisses and Stiles braced himself, nudging his head further into the touch.
“You’re something else, you know that Stilinski?” Derek muttered gruffly but his lips were curved into a smile and Stiles huffed.
After a long moment Derek glanced up at the moon before pulling a small book from his pocket and placing it gently inside the cage.
“I’m guessing you didn’t bring clothes, so I’ll leave you to it.” He grinned ruefully and Stiles glared at him because if their positions had been reversed there was no way he’d leave without getting a free peepshow. But hey, apparently Derek was a gentleman, an aggressive, controlling, socially backwards and sometimes hairy gentleman.
Derek smirked like he knew exactly what was going through Stiles head. “It’s not like I won’t be seeing you naked soon enough.”
Stiles was suddenly damn glad he couldn’t blush in his current form because his whole body heated with just the thought of being naked in front of Derek or being naked in front of a naked Derek, which was even better.
Derek took one step back, then another glancing at Stiles one last time before vanishing into the shadows.
Mere seconds after Derek had gone the cage bars fell to the floor and Stiles glared at them as they narrowly missed the book because if Derek had a werewolf catching cage why the hell hadn’t they used it to catch Peter Hale from the get go?
Prowling forward Stiles sniffed at it, staring at the cover where a large tree was engraved with a hollow that looked a lot like the form of a howling wolf above it the word Hale was copied in stark letters, the four corners of the book had large holes carved into it and Stiles stared at them before it clicked that if book had needed to be carried in wolf form there had had to be some way to protect it from harm.
Lifting it carefully he snorted in surprise when his teeth slotted perfectly into the holes.
Glancing back towards the shadows he shook his head before loping from the forest.
Scrambling up the wall he slid into his room through the open window pausing for a second and listening but there was no sound from downstairs.
Shifting form he caught the book and dropped it onto the bed before running for the shower.
A few minutes later he dragged on his shorts and slipped onto the bed. Flicking the book open he scanned the subtitles before one caught his eye. The White Alphas.
Quickly turning until he found the page Stiles settled in to read.
The white alpha is not a single species of wolf. They come in varying ages and genders and may stem from any clan, though over the years the majority of white alphas have been produced by the Gabor pack.
Pups that show signs of being white alphas have received protection from the elders of neighbouring packs as a bond with such a wolf increases the strength of the current alpha of the pack.
The forcing of such a bond is considered a heinous crime and is punishable by death.
In the past arranged marriages have been pursued however the white alphas have long since proven that the wolf will instinctively bond only with the one that it believes is its mate. This has led to the migration of many of these alphas in search of said mate.
The majority of white alphas are male and while females are possible they account for less than five percent of their overall population.
Both males and females share common characteristics and are easily identified by their pure white fur.
White alphas are said to be easily excitable and tend to be mischievous as pups until they have settled on a specific mate at which point their energies are usually focused on keeping said mate’s attention riveted to them.
Though many white alphas are not the head alpha it should not be forgotten that they are still a large part of the alpha pair and will be just as dangerous if not more so than their mates.
White alphas are not allowed to mate until their human counterpart is as least sixteen at which time their wolf will have fully matured and been able to take their part as the head of the pack.
Stiles blinked as his wolf whined. The book smelt like Derek and pack and sorrow. It made Stiles wonder how many times Derek had just held the book after his parents had died like Stiles had held his aunt’s scarf.
Shutting the book he rubbed his head and glanced at the waning moon, he had a lot to think about.
*O*
“Stiles!”
Stiles started as his dad’s voice pulled him from his sleep. Blinking he frowned at the sheriff’s concerned expression.
“You feeling ok?” his dad asked as he sat on the edge of Stiles’ bed.
Stiles shook his head because honestly with all that was going on he didn’t think he’d have the energy to survive school.
“Right, how about you call it quits for a few days?” the sheriff suggested as he brushed Stiles’ hair back “I figured you’d been running a bit too high there.”
“It’s not that bad.” Stiles protested because he really didn’t want his dad to worry.
“How about this you take a few days off school I call in sick at work and we have some father son bonding?” his dad grinned “Or aren’t you up to some time with your old man?”
Stiles snorted as he rolled over, burying his face in his dad’s clothes. “Bring it on old man.” He muttered and if he clung a little tightly to the sheriff’s clothes well neither of them mentioned it so it wasn’t that big a deal.
*O*
When Stiles walked into the high school the next day he was greeted by Danny. The tall teen was lounging against his locker nonchalantly. Stiles would have believed the farce if it hadn’t been for the anger rolling off Danny in waves.
“Hey Stilinski, heard you were ill.”
Stiles snorted, yeah ill. He just caught a case of the Derek bug followed up by a hit from the clue bus and a dip in Lake Wolf Lore.
“It was just a cold.” He waved him off as he grabbed his books “But why are you here and not with your hanger-on?”
Danny’s eyes darkened “Jackson and I aren’t talking.”
“Didn’t he apologize?” Stiles queried as they walked down the hall.
“Oh he apologized alright. Then took the time out of his busy schedule with McCall to tell me I should stay away from you.”
Stiles brow rose at that, he hadn’t missed the fact that Scott hadn’t tried to visit him during his supposed illness but he’d just figured that the other boy had been caught up with Allison again. It wouldn’t have been the first time that Scott’s skewed priorities put Allison before him, but Scott and Jackson?
“Scott and Jackson?” he echoed aloud “Are you sure you’re not seeing things?”
“Look for yourself.” Danny muttered and Stiles glanced up just in time to see Scott glance towards him from where he was huddled with Jackson and Allison.
“Huh, ok. So Scott and Jackson.” He huffed “Never thought I’d see the day.”
His wolf huffed at the scent bleeding off the three, nervousness and wariness. One second it was there, clear as day and the next it was gone snuffed out like a flame and Stiles’ eyes narrowed in contemplation.
“So how long has this been going on?”
“Ever since I came back, I don’t what the hell the three of them are up to but its starting to get really annoying.”
Stiles hummed in agreement and pushed his wolf’s concerned whines to the corner of his mind as he stepped into his classroom.
*O*
Let it not be said anywhere that Stiles Stilinski was paranoid but then again it wasn’t paranoia if they were out to get ya was it?
Stiles glanced away from Danny when Scott settled in the seat beside him.
“Hey Stiles.” His friend greeted
“Hello Scott, old buddy, old pal. Fancy seeing you here in the cafeteria at lunch time considering the way you’ve been avoiding me all day.”
Scott gave him a rueful grin “I haven’t been avoiding you Stiles; I just had stuff to do.”
“Stuff….” Stiles nodded.
“It’s a perfect explanation Stiles. McCall had stuff to do with Allison and Jackson, top secret stuff that they can’t share with their best friends.” Lydia all but purred as she slammed her lunch tray onto the table.
“Lydia, I told you…” Allison began but the other girl cut her off with a wave.
“Don’t mind me All, after all I wouldn’t want to get in the way of your stuff.” She sniffed.
Stiles choked back a laugh at the haughty look on Lydia’s face, the girl was seriously all sorts of epic and if he hadn’t been infected by the Derek cooties he’d be all over her!
“Hey Stiles, could we talk?” Scott whispered and Stiles glanced towards Danny before nodding and following Scott from the lunch room.
Scott walked them to the edge of the school’s locker room before he turned to Stiles.
Leaning against the locker Stiles waited.
“So I know we haven’t been talking much lately and I guess some of that’s my fault you know and I’m sorry about ditching you for Allison most of the time.” Scott began.
“Okay.” Stiles nodded slowly “Dude, not that I don’t appreciate the gesture but you’ve done a helluva lot worse before.”
“I know but this time I want to make up for it you know,” Scott hurried on “So just don’t move ok, I’ve got something I want to show you.”
Stiles grinned at his friend’s discomfort “Consider me Gandalf.”
Scott nodded “Cool, cool. I’ll be right back.” he yelled as he shot from the room and Stiles shook his head before sitting on one of the benches.
A few minutes later the door slammed shut and Stiles glanced up and froze when Allison and Jackson entered the room followed by a sheepish Scott.
His wolf growled in the back of his head, Allison held no scent! There was none of the familiar blood and metal he’d come to associate the girl and her family with even though she was standing mere feet away from him.
Rising to his feet slowly he glanced from one to the other. “What’s going on here?”
Scott stepped forward before Jackson could stop him. “It’s just we need to know something Stiles.”
Allison nodded stepping closer as she held out a small trinket to him “Could you just hold this Stiles?” she whispered and Stiles had to fight the instinct to recoil from her.
Glancing at the thing he frowned “What is it?”
“If we’re wrong it’s nothing important.” Jackson sneered and Stiles really wanted to wipe the floor with the beta but now was not the time.
“And if you’re right?”
“We won’t be.” Scott piped up and Stiles glared at him, watching as the boy’s face paled.
“If you’re right?” Stiles asked again
“Would you quit stalling…” Jackson began as Scott pleaded with him to “Just take it.”
Allison had apparently had enough of the stand off and she shifted. Stiles attention flew from the two betas to her as something sailed through the air and instinctively he raised his hand to catch it.
Three things happened in the space of a second.
The trinket hit Stiles skin, flaring with heat and he volleyed it back towards the girl with a second thought.
His body twisted as his wolf latched onto his lapse and concentration, diving at the hunter in a single move.
Stiles could hear Jackson and Scott’s panicked shouts as two bodies collided with his but his wolf was beyond his control.
It had been betrayed by its own pack! There was no room for thought and mercy.
Stiles lashed out and he heard a familiar yelp as his arm hit one of the bodies trying to pin him.
Grabbing the other by its scruff Stiles slammed it against the locker. The metal twisting at the force even as the beta beneath his grip scrabbled at his arm to free itself.
Baring his teeth in a snarl Stiles yanked the wolf closer and then….
“Ok, there’s a part of me that really wants to walk away from this but would someone tell me what the hell is going on?!”
The voice pulled Stiles from his haze and he turned towards it, blinking as he took in the sight of Danny and Lydia standing in the locker’s doorway.
Glancing away from her Stiles’ eyes narrowed as they met Jackson’s. The other boy had wolfed out in the mayhem and he was trying to keep completely still.
“I’m waiting.” Lydia hissed “Because I’m tempted to start thinking that those stories about werewolves aren’t so farfetched anymore.”
Danny swallowed and nodded in agreement. “So you three are?” he whispered glancing from Scott to Stiles to Jackson. “What and nobody decided to tell us?”
“Is no one in this town normal?!” Lydia seethed as she turned on Allison “And what you’re one too?”
“Hunter.” Allison responded flinching back when Stiles turned to glare at her.
“Not to surprise you all but since summer this wolf thing has been old hat.” Lydia huffed.
“What?!” Scott squawked
Lydia ignored him, eyes flickering to Stiles “Don’t you think you should….” She gestured to Jackson and Stiles grinned feraly before opening his fist and letting the beta slump to the floor.
“Yeah, most of our parents started telling us about the old stories.” Danny shrugged “But I don’t…why were you all fighting?”
“They didn’t know I was one.” Stiles responded.
“And they asked and you decided to beat the crap out of them?” Lydia snorted “Anger issues much.”
“Nobody asked, my good buddy Scott decided to trap me in here and force the answer out of me by using his little hunter.” Stiles seethed as he stepped over Jackson’s prone body.
“Stiles I….”
Stiles spun on him, catching sight of his red eyes in the mirror behind them “It’s funny you know.” He began stepping closer to his friend “I was the one that helped you figure out what was happening. I was the one who helped cover your tracks everytime you decided to go prancing off with Allison, my dad was the one who almost got killed and you didn’t for a second stop to think that maybe, maybe coming to me first would have been better than this obvious clusterfuck!”
“Would you have told us?” Allison whispered and Stiles snorted before turning from them.
“I would have told my friend.”
Danny glanced down at Stiles’ shaking hands and took a step closer despite the slight hint of fear wafting off him.
“I think you all need to take a time out.” He sighed and Stiles nodded watching as his claws retracted.
“Come on Stilinski, I’ll give you a lift. I mean what do they do to werewolves if they cause accidents, send them to the pound?” Danny huffed as he bumped Stiles shoulder with his own.
“Dog jokes, Danny? You wound me.” Stiles mumbled but Danny just grinned as he shepherded Stiles from the room.
“Stiles!” Scott called from behind them but Stiles didn’t turn around.
“You know McCall, you seem to have a knack for ruining good things.” Lydia tssked as the door slammed shut.
Stiles climbed into Danny’s car and shut his eyes as he inhaled the familiar scent of pack that lingered on the boy’s skin.
“Where do you need to go?” Danny whispered softly and Stiles glanced at him.
“Derek’s.”
